Wilson graduated summa cum laude from Birmingham-Southern College in 1991, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. In 1994, he received his law degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he attained membership on the Alabama Law Review and was a Hugo Black Scholar and Dean M. Leigh Harrison Scholar.

Wilson began his career by serving as law clerk to the Hon. Robert B. Propst, United States District Court for the Northern District of Alabama, in the 1994 -1995 term. For the next ten years, Wilson was a partner at Sirote & Permutt P.C. and Burr & Forman LLP in Birmingham, Alabama, where he practiced in commercial and civil litigation. Since 2004, he and Jim Fleenor, also a former Burr & Forman partner, have represented plaintiffs and defendants in commercial and consumer litigation matters in their own firm.

Wilson has a wide range of experience in handling complex civil litigation matters, serving as lead counsel in scores of cases varying from class actions, to complex tax disputes, to business and commercial litigation. He has argued as lead counsel in numerous cases before the Supreme Court of Alabama and the Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal, and is a member of the United States Supreme Court bar. From 2000-09, Wilson taught Class Actions, Complex Litigation, and other courses at the University of Alabama School of Law.  Since 2009, Wilson has been recognized yearly in Alabama Super Lawyers for his work in class actions and business litigation.

Wilson is an active member of the Tuscaloosa community, serving in a variety of leadership positions, including the following: University of Alabama College of Arts & Sciences, Leadership Board (Member, 2005-09), University of Alabama School of Law, Farrah Law Alumni Society Board of Trustees (Board Member, 2002-present), Christ Episcopal Church (Vestry member, 2008-10, 2013-15), Tuscaloosa County Mental Retardation Authority - Ability Alliance of West Alabama (Board Member, 2007-present), and Tuscaloosa Academy (Board Member, 2012-present).  In addition, Wilson is a leader in the Alabama State Bar, participating in the Leadership Forum (Class of 2007) and serving as Assistant Editor of The Alabama Lawyer magazine (2011-present).
